Moving During the Holiday Season in Thousand Oaks, CA; Prepping to Move Around Christmas & More

The holiday season is something people look forward to all year long. There is so much magic in the air during the holidays. Participating in your yearly traditions or creating new ones creates excitement for families all over the country. Some years there are things that come up that thwart your holiday plans. Moving is one thing that can create some stress if it coincides with the holidays. Today Laprom Movers has some tips today for you to utilize if you find yourself needing to move during the holiday season.

Avoid Holiday Traffic when Moving

If you find yourself needing to move during the holiday season you will want to time it good as you possibly can. Moving locally does not present as many issues during the holidays. Moving to a new city or state provides a few more issues that you will want to be prepared for. Holiday traffic is one topic that you will want to think about either way. Reports show that local traffic is a concern because of holiday shopping. Black Friday is one of the busiest shopping days of the entire year. Planning a move on this day will create some additional traffic concerns. Another busy shopping day is the Saturday before Christmas Day. Traffic around town will be worse than normal on those days. If you can avoid moving on those days you will want to do so.

Prepping to Move Around the Holidays

Moving to a new city or state provides some other things to think about. The U.S. Department of Transportation reports that Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years periods are among the busiest travel times of the year. Many people think if they move on the actual holiday they will run into less traffic. This is true at Christmas but not Thanksgiving or New Years. Thanksgiving Day is actually one of the busiest travel days of the entire year. Try to plan your move around this statistical information.

Move During Cold Winter Weather

Another concern when you move during the holidays is the weather. Winter weather can be tricky. If you are moving cross country this is an even larger concern. Rain, snow, sleet, hail, and black ice can all slow you down during your move. Laprom Movers is experienced at driving during cold weather. We will make sure that we keep your belongings nice and safe along the entire move.

Temporary Storage when Moving During the Holidays

Your family will likely want to celebrate the holidays on some level this season. Sometimes this takes some creative thinking. Many of our customers will actually load up all of their belongings from one house and have us store it temporarily for them while they stay with family for the holiday season. Then they will move into their new home after the holidays are over. If this is an option you will want to consider this. Many times this is not an option though. If you move right before or after a holiday try your best to still celebrate. Your celebration will look different because you will be in the middle of packing or unpacking but it is definitely doable.
